Joey Bilotta For The Win

If you’ve ever studied and trained at an EduKick Academy, then you know Joey Bilotta. Joey has spent most of his life inspiring young soccer players to excellence.

He works harder than most people on the planet to encourage, motivate and involve them in classes, sessions, and training that prepares them – not just for the soccer arena – but for life.

The Goal of EduKick Academies

As soccer, or football, is a world sport, it’s his goal, and the goal of all EduKick venues, to offer these young players a better sense of what the world is like. And while academics and soccer training are the main studies at each campus, the overall experience offered by EduKick International Football Association (EIFA) provides the opportunity for each student to develop intercultural competence.

Joey firmly believes that learning to understand, communicate with, and play alongside players and coaches from other countries and cultures gives these students an edge over most other players.

What Student Success Looks Like

With that edge comes a better awareness of who they are – individually – and what their place is in the international world of soccer. While some, like Duncan McCormick and David Somma, have gone on to professional careers, others have chosen to coach, teach, and work in the administrative side of the soccer world.

Whatever their place, these student-players – alumni of EduKick Academies – continue to develop in the sport they love so much.

And a good deal of this deeply embedded sense of purpose is owed to our own Joey Bilotta.

Thanks, Joey!

Spanish Soccer Academy: EduKick Students Enjoy Madrid

Keeper 640

Daily Routines

Everyday at Madrid students wake up at dawn in the university dorm rooms and prepare for the day of training ahead. After a simple Spanish breakfast, they begin daily language lessons and usual academics.

A workout in the gym follows with a specialized fitness training routine for each student-athlete. By then, it’s time for lunch in Madrid – the heartiest meal of the day here – introducing the student-players to many new foods and old favorites like tortillas.

Soccer practices and games take place during the afternoon, and in the evenings, a traditionally light Spanish dinner. Students often call home during this time as well as work on studies and spend time with new friends in the game room.

Sight-seeing and cultural day trips to famous Spanish sites, football stadium tours, and attending professional football matches become memories for everyone in attendance. One favorite day trip includes crossing the lush mountains of Guadaramma on their way to Segovia.

Another favorite is the trip to the Roman aqueducts or the 300-year-old fountains in the gardens of Alcazar castle.

Professional Advice

Throughout the year, our EduKick International Acadmies, including Edukick Manchester, bring in the professional people of football. The criteria for this is a successful or lifetime involvement in the sport, local coaches, staff, players and key team members who make it happen.

Real Life Stories

In this case, we brought in Keith Rees to give real life stories and advice to the players. Keith is the Development and Recruitment Officer as well as Goalkeeper for Everton FC. He is a major participant in the English football system.

Keith spent the whole day at the school and spoke for an hour with the players. He offered them them insight into the values and ethos of the academy at Everton FC. He unfolded for them how communication works between staff and players about expectations and performance.

Pictures of our fantastic 2014/2015 year.

Neil Garside, EduKick Manchester Head Coach/BTEC Tutor, spent the last few months on these topics, so it helped to cements these principles into the minds of the student players.

Future Opportunities

As with all the experts we bring in, Keith’s wealth of knowledge brought much to the table. Not only his knowledge of the game, but also what he’s learned from his role at Everton, as an FA assessor of coaches, as a coach mentor, having worked with many top level players and working with Team GB at the Olympics.

We look forward to seeing Keith again, in 2015, as he has invited us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Academy.

Roberto Navajas Goalie Soccer Training Video

Watch Roberto Navajas as he trains EduKick Madrid Soccer students. Most of these players are working on their skills as a goalie, and Roberto is an excellent choice for a coach! EduKick International works hard to secure the best trainers for each area of soccer training as well as academics.

One of Robert’s best tips? Stay happy and relaxed as you play! When you become too tense, you lose the joy of the game, you tire more easily, and your skills start to decline.

So play hard, play fair, and play happy!
